Without a project, how could we write the code In this few slides, we will discuss the step to create an empty project in MPLABX IDE. The dialog box helps us to select and set the programming tools and target device. The PIC18F46K20 is one of the controller supported by the MCC. In select tools step, you can click on next as we are not using any hardware tools, but I suggest you to click on PICKIT3 prior to click on next. I would suggest you to put all project under sub-folder project of your working folder. Before you click on next, click on the box for setting the project as main project. Finally, an empty project as shown above will be generated once you click next on a previous step. At this point please check and verify, the tools and device selected for that project. Click on Project - Dashboard and check for device and compiler toolchain. Ensure that the project uses the correct device and compiler toolchain. In this example, we will generate a code to toggle LED continuously. In the MPLABX IDE, under tool menu, select embedded and click on MPLAB(R) CODE CONFIGURATOR, it is under tool menu. On the left we have the project resources and device resources menu. Device resources menu allows us to select the device to be configured.
